SWEET PICKLE STICKS

3 3/4 c. brown vinegar
4 c. sugar
3 tbsp. salt
4 1/2 tsp. celery seed
4 1/2 tsp. turmeric
3/4 tsp. mustard seed
Med. cucumbers

Cut cucumbers into sticks. Place in bowl. Pour boiling water over them until covered. Let stand 4-5 hours; drain and pack into jars. Combine all ingredients into saucepan. Bring to boil. Boil 5 minutes longer. Pour hot over cucumbers. Process 5 minutes. The water in canner should be halfway up jar. Makes 8 pints.

SWEET PICKLE STICKS

8 lbs. lg. cucumbers (2 gal. cut)

Peel, seed, cut sticks 1 1/2 inches long. Soak 24 hours in 2 cups lime, 1 tablespoon alum and water to cover. Rinse several times. Soak in clear water 3 hours (no longer - will soften). --SYRUP:--

2 qts. vinegar
4 1/2 lbs. sugar (9 c.)
1 tsp. cloves, whole
1 tsp. celery seed
1 tsp. mixed pickle spice
Green food coloring

Place spices in bag to boil. Bring to boil and cool. Pour this over cucumbers and let stand overnight. Simmer until clear in syrup, 20 minutes or more. Seal, 15 minutes hot water bath. Kenyon
